After Baby Care

Once baby has arrived, do you wonder how you will manage the house and bond with your baby at the same time?

A Postpartum Doula is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby with things such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, emotional support, and providing information about baby care and breastfeeding. She is a must-have for new families!

What do Postpartum Doulas Do?

Beyond the benefits of your Doula's warmth, encouragement, and knowledge through your parenting journey, services include:

  • Providing support with breastfeeding.

  • Teaching parents about newborn soothing and baby cues.

  • Caring for your baby while you take a few moments for self-care, which may include a shower or a meal.

  • Assisting with older siblings.

  • Light housekeeping, errand running, meal and snack preparation.

  • Screening for postpartum disorders. Doulas are trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of postpartum baby blues and depression.

  • Information on a variety of parenting choices, including diapering, sleeping and feeding methods, babywearing, and all things "baby."

Benefits of Having Support After Baby

Research shows that moms, dads, and babies have an easier time with this transition if a good support team is in place. Moms need to be nurtured after they give birth, and postpartum Doulas are passionate about seeing that through. Having a Doula by your side can be extremely beneficial:

  • So you can be nurtured while you nurture your newborn.

  • So you can have an experienced woman by your side if you have frustrating moments with your baby.

  • So you can be reminded to eat well and stay hydrated. Simple things.

  • So you can be free of day-to-day household tasks in order to focus on bonding with your baby and your partner.

  • BECAUSE YOU DESERVE ONE!

When to Contact a Postpartum Doula

Contacting a Postpartum Doula in the weeks before your birth will ensure her availability to you. Most Doulas provide service for a family anywhere from a few days up to a few weeks after bringing home a new baby. Families may have the Doula work 1-3 days a week or as many as five days a week. Short-term and long-term care is available to families during daytime and overnight hours or temporary live-in care.
