Maya Abdominal Therapy®
Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT)
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® is a collection of gentle but effective massage techniques used by traditional healers of the Maya people of Central America and formulated by Dr. Rosita Arvigo. This therapy enhances health and wellness of the pelvis and abdominal organs by reestablishing optimal position of the organs, allowing the body to reestablish balance.
The Arvigo Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive way to guide and support organs back into an optimal positon in the pelvis for improved function and wellness. The work is best know for addressing an improperly positioned uterus, for example a prolapse or retroverted position. This therapy helps to bring into balance the complex ligament system that suspends and uterus and ovaries, thus corrrecting uterine position. When pelvic organs are misaligned, symptoms such as infertility, irregular or painful periods, fibroids, and digestive issues may be present. Over time these conditions can be greatly improved as the body restors blood, nerve, and lymph flow to the pelvis and allows for women to deepen the connection to their center.
What should I expect during ATMAT®?
At your initial session, your Arvigo Maya practitioner will review your personal health history and health care needs. The practitioner will assess your uterine position, your hip position and alignment and then administer the techniques of Maya therapy by gently massaging the upper and lower abdomen. Massage is also applied to the muscles surrounding the lower back and sacrum. You will also be instructed in the Arvigo self-care techniques which you can begin doing immediately at home. Self care massage enables you to maximise the benefits of a professional session and bring balance back to your overall health, particularly your pelvic health.
What are the benefits of the ATMAT®?
Once an optimal position is established women can receive relief from conditions such as:
Discomforts of pregnancy
C-section/hysterectomy surgery recovery
Endometriosis, cysts, fibroids
Chronic bladder/yeast infections
When do I contact an ATMAT® practitioner?
Most women are able to receive this work taking into account where they may be during their menstrual cycle. A few circumstances such as pelvic infections, post-surgery, IUD users, and pregnancy are taken into consideration. This can be discussed specifically with your Arvigo Therapist.
